Tamiya RC Car M-Chassis Kits

Mini Coopers have been automotive fan favourite machines for decades! This 1/10 scale radio control model kit recreates the version of the Mini Cooper built by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) as it existed between 1959 until the year 2000. Original Minis were built for four decades without model changes. It had a front-wheel drive layout which was rare at that time, and it featured compact mechanics and maximum interior space. With its design featuring the necessary bare minimum features, it helped contribute to this car’s iconic status. The recreated R/C version comes on the MB-01 chassis in the short wheelbase and front motor / front-wheel drive (FF) configuration layout.

The MB-01 Chassis
The compact, 2WD MB-01 chassis gives a choice of three types of wheelbases, and a front- or rear- wheel drive system. Without removing battery pack, motor, and R/C equipment setups from the centre frame, simply change attachment directions of final gears and steering linkage to switch between front- and rear-wheel drive; low or high motor position can be chosen for rear-wheel drive cars. The 4-wheel double wishbone suspension features symmetrical structure and friction dampers. Unitized sections such as motor mount, final gears and suspension facilitate ease of assembly and effective maintenance.

This R/C kit recreates the classic Lotus Europa Special. The polycarbonate body is paired with the RWD M-06 chassis. The Lotus Europa debuted in 1966, showcasing what was then a revolutionary midship engine layout, with a lightweight FRP body. In 1972 perhaps the finest model – Lotus Europa Special - in the series was released with 1.6-litre inline-4 engine (big valve twin-cam engine) capable of 126hp which was the largest maximum output among the Lotus Europa series. The Tamiya R/C kit faithfully captures this classic car down to the rear wing as seen in the SPECIAL variant of the Europa.

M-06 Chassis
The M-06 chassis features a rear-mounted motor, rear-drive setup and has a longitudinally-mounted battery pack, with R/C equipment positioned on either side for optimum balance and a low centre of gravity. 4-wheel double wishbone suspension uses grey coloured wheels, equipped with 60D radial tyres at the front and 60D super grip tyres at the rear. In addition, a 3-piece steering linkage offers nimble handling response.

The M-08R adds a plethora of race-spec parts to the balanced, compact RWD M-08 Concept chassis: an example being the hopped-up drivetrain with a ball differential, universal shafts featuring low-friction cross joints and lightweight aluminium swing shafts, plus 5mm wheel hubs. Turnbuckle shaft suspension arm and steering setup components simplify fine-tuning of the M-08R, and titanium-coated shafts are a durable inclusion in the kit. Carbon fibre damper stays are paired with M-Chassis big bore aluminium dampers+ featuring dedicated blue anodized top and bottom caps for a touch of class, while a 20-gram ballast weight is included to get the chassis feeling just how you want it to.

The MF-01X is a compact chassis set to revolutionize the M-Chassis genre, and the all-important first model on this platform recreates the legendary Japanese off-roader, the Suzuki Jimny. The Jimny, of course, has been on sale as one variant or another since 1970, gaining numerous fans thanks to its versatility and toughness. The JB23 depicted by this model is one of the 3rd generation Jimnys introduced in 1998 which had a modernized, rounded body design. It featured a feisty little fuel injected, turbocharged 658cc engine and was a popular car in the domestic Japanese market.

Key Design Points
Power is transmitted from the rear mounted motor to the front wheels via a propeller shaft that runs down the side of the MF- 01X. Gearboxes are integrated into the monocoque for a sturdy and easy-to-assemble structure.

The MF-01X has a three-section make-up; changing the central spacer section enables short (210mm), middle (225mm), and long (239mm) wheelbases. Item 58614 uses a middle wheelbase; option parts Item 54654 is needed to change to a short wheelbase, and Item 54655 when changing to a long wheelbase.

This TAMIYA R/C model assembly kit depicts the 1st-generation (T1) variant of the Volkswagen Type 2 van, which was introduced in 1950 and also known as the Volkswagen Bus to many of its legions of fans. Production of the actual van continued through until 1967. The iconic body is paired with the rear-wheel drive M-06 chassis for realistic fun driving just like the real RR Type 2 T1.

This R/C kit recreates the Alpine A110 with an orange Jägermeister livery on top of the proven and fun-to-drive M-06 chassis. The Alpine A110 was a French compact coupe featuring a lightweight FRP body based upon a steel backbone, rear-wheel drive chassis with the rear-mounted inline-4 engine positioned longitudinally. Production continued from its debut year 1963 until 1977, and the A110 attained fame after victory in the 1971 rally in Monte Carlo. In 1973, this car became the first World Rally champion and its Jägermeister orange livery version achieved a class victory in German circuit races.

The 1980’s was the decade of the hot hatch back in automotive circles! One of the many automakers that made hatchbacks popular was Volkswagen, and their MK2 GTI 16V was a favourite among automotive fans. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA Club Racer makes an appearance on the new and versatile MB-01 chassis platform. This time around the MB-01 is configured to be the middle wheelbase with midship rear motor/rear wheel drive (MR) specification. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA was developed as the lightweight, tuned race version of the 2-door coupe Giulia Sprint GT and released in 1965. 500 units were produced and in the late 1960s the works car became class champion several times in the European Touring Car Championship; also run by other racing teams, it caught a lot of attention at the racetrack!

Here is another R/C kit with the MB-01 chassis – this time, long wheelbase and midship rear motor / rear wheel drive (MR). The Opel Kadett GT/E released in 1975 was a high-spec version of the Opel Kadett, a car which enjoyed great popularity in Europe in the 1970s. The GT/E had a 2-door coupe body, a high-spec 1.9 litre engine and reinforced suspension; the works Opel Eurohändler team, satellite teams and privateers took part in rally races with modified versions of this car, and in 1976 it secured second place in the manufacturer’s championship in global rally races.

The origin of M-chassis series history goes back to December 1994, and this series has been popular due to cost-effective kits with a wide choice of bodies, ease of maintenance and control for any level user. Enter, the all-new MB-01!

The new MB-01 chassis continues that tradition and allows six setups by choosing from three types of wheelbases, and front- or rear- wheel drive system. Its first body recreates the Fiat Abarth 1000 TCR Berlina Corse which was a car developed with high level tune-ups based upon the compact 2-door Fiat 600.

This R/C model assembly kit recreates the classic Ford Escort Mk.II in rally racing form. It was a RAC Rally Champion from 1975-1979. The pre-painted body sits on top the Tamiya MF-01X chassis that is capable both on asphalt and flat dirt surfaces.

Tamiya is no stranger to recreating classic cars from different eras! This specific kit recreates a true classic in the form of the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. The Karmann Ghia was a stylish coupé based upon the same platform as the legendary Beetle. Its body was designed by Italian firm Ghia and manufactured by the German company Karmann. The polycarbonate body in this replica sits on top of the Tamiya RWD M-06 chassis.
