Additive Rules

We are now happy to accept use of Tyre Additives - Rules apply - Must be a from approved list below. Wipe away 30mins prior to use on the carpet. Only required for cars keeping to a certain tyre shore rating - please select a different tyre softness where possible.

In the UK, the list of "allowed" tire additives for RC cars is primarily governed by the BRCA (British Radio Car Association). For indoor carpet racing, regulations focus on water-based, low-odor, and non-toxic formulas to protect the track surface and air quality.

Because rules can shift mid-season, you should always check your specific club's handbook, but the following are the industry standards and BRCA-approved additives for 2026.

1. Most Commonly Allowed (Gold Standard)

These three are the "safe" bets allowed at nearly every UK club and national event:

  • SXT 3.0 (SXT00030): Widely considered the "standard" for carpet racing. It is virtually odorless and very safe for track surfaces.
  • Spider Grip Blue (Medium/Strong): Popular for rubber tires on carpet; provides high grip without damaging the fibers. Buy Spider Blue hereSpider Blue
  • Spider Grip Green (Extra Strong): Often used when more "bite" is needed on lower-traction carpets.

2. BRCA 1/12th & Touring Car Section Approved List

If you are racing in sanctioned events (like the Nationals), these specific products are officially listed:

  • MR33 V4 / V5 Carpet Additive: The V5 (ETS version) is increasingly becoming the "control" additive for many UK series and clubs.
  • HUDY Carpet Gripper V2 (106260): A common choice for both rubber and foam tires.
  • CS High Grip (C6400): Frequently used as a "control" additive provided by event organizers to ensure a level playing field.
  • Contact Grip "R": Specifically formulated for rubber tires on carpet and tarmac.

3. Specialty/Alternative Allowed Options

  • Spider Grip Aqua: A water-based alternative specifically for clubs with extremely strict "no-smell" policies.
  • Volante Carpet (Purple/Blue): Often allowed at clubs that use Volante control tires.
  • Sticky Fingers: Occasionally permitted, though less common than SXT or MR33.

Important "Red Flag" Rules

  • No Oil-Based Additives: Most UK indoor clubs have a strict ban on oil-based additives (like the old Paragon Ground Effects or WD40) because they leave a "slick" on the carpet that ruins the track for other racers.
  • Original Containers: Most rules require you to keep the additive in its original bottle with the label intact so marshals can verify it is a permitted substance.
  • Dry Tires Only: You must wipe your tires dry before placing your car on the track. If your tires are "wet" at the start line, you can be disqualified to prevent fluid transfer to the carpet.

Pro Tip: If you are visiting a new club in the UK, SXT 3.0 is the safest "all-rounder" to keep in your pit bag. It is rarely, if ever, on a banned list.
